Sad news to report out of India, as three PwC employees were injured, one fatally, in a rollover car accident Wednesday morning.

The three men were passengers in an office pool car and were on their way to work at PwC’s office in Kolkata, West Bengal, when the vehicle suddenly swerved to the right and crashed into a median divider on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. The car then hit a lamp post, spun around, and rolled onto its roof. Another published report said the car was also struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Sudip Chakrabarty, a senior associate, died from head injuries sustained in the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to reports.

Ansuman Dey, an associate with the firm, was hospitalized with head and hand injuries, and Dhritiman Ghosh, a manager with PwC, fractured his arm but was not hospitalized.

The driver of the car, Ajay Roy, suffered injuries to his head and arm. In his statement to police, Roy reportedly said the three PwC employees pressured him to drive fast because they were late to work.

Authorities suspect that Roy had fallen asleep at the wheel before the car veered suddenly to the right.

PwC has yet to release an official statement regarding Chakrabarty’s death. The firm has yet to respond to our request for comment.
