If You Were Planning to Procrastinate on the CPA Exam This Year, Don’t

Sometimes, the CPA Exam Powers That Be see fit to have mercy on your procrastinating souls and extend testing windows at the end of the year just in case you absolutely need to catch up with your family around the holidays. Not so much this year.

From NASBA:

The Fall 2014 testing window begins on October 1 and ends on November 30. This year, the Fall testing window for the Uniform CPA Examination will not be extended to accommodate the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S., which falls on Thursday, November 27, 2014.

NASBA, the AICPA and Prometric strongly recommend that you schedule your Exam testing appointments as soon as possible to ensure you have plenty of time to complete testing before enjoying your Thanksgiving holiday.

As a general rule, you should always schedule early for the last two testing windows of the year. Why? Because you aren't the only one who blew off the year and realized "holy crap, it's almost Christmas, I better take at least one part of this stupid exam before New Years" some time around September.

In case time isn't your strong suit (I get it, me neither), that means if you screw this up and can't get the test date you want, you're out of luck for the rest of the year. Now, it's possible test dates will still be open even if you twiddle your thumbs on this longer than the SEC has twiddled theirs on IFRS adoption in the U.S. but you may not get the time or testing location you prefer. And no one wants to drive two hours out of the way to some podunk testing center in winter.

SO, get on it. Or don't, whatever, it's only your entire career hanging in the balance.
