Meet This Firm: Kaufman Rossin

Kaufman Rossin

Meet This Firm is a series of video interviews featuring the best accounting employers across the United States for high performing accounting professionals and CPAs. Please enjoy this sponsored post courtesy of Kaufman Rossin, an Accountingfly Firm Partner. Contact Judy Schryver to learn more about firm partnerships.

South Florida firm Kaufman Rossin has four core values: integrity, treating people fairly, social responsibility and a joyful work environment. These tenets have resulted in an award-winning firm: Kaufman Rossin was recently ranked by Accounting Today as the 2016 #1 Best Accounting Firm to Work For. They have also been recognized as an IPA Top 100 firm.

Audit Manager Cary Valdes-Perez says she doesn’t know of other firms that would allow her to take four-week vacations to pursue her passion for travel. The flexibility the firm shows by letting Cary take extended time off shows itself in other ways, too. The workday might be long from Monday through Thursday during busy season, but everyone leaves at five or five-thirty on Friday.

“I’ve been at the firm since I started as an intern in 2007,” she says, “and the exposure I’ve had to clients in different industries allowed me to truly understand how businesses work. It makes me I feel like I’ve gotten an MBA! Along the way, I’ve gotten the feedback and training I need to move my career forward in an environment that enhances my strengths and helps me strengthen my weaknesses.”

One of the accomplishments Cary is particularly proud of is the firm’s Beer Bash. Surprisingly, the event rose out of a performance review during which Cary suggested the event to support the firm’s business development efforts. The Beer Bash has become one of Kaufman Rossin’s most successful networking events.

According to Cary, that’s just one example of how committed firm leaders are to making everyone feel included. Even when she first started at the firm doing small tasks, project leaders made sure she understood the role her assignment played in the big picture. “It’s empowering,” she said, “to feel like an important part of the team from Day 1. It feels like we’re all charged with making the firm better, whether that is a process change or a change that increases workplace satisfaction.”
