Michele Bachmann Can Take Solace in the Fact That the IRS Is Also Feeling Rejected by Iowa Today

You've probably heard by now that escaped mental patient Michele Bachmann has suspended her campaign for president. While this is upsetting for many that stand proudly around the Bachmann couldron, the congresswoman should know that while voters all over Iowa were skipping over her name with ease last night, the Iowa City school district also stuck it to another unpopular part of the federal government.

The Iowa City school district will get back the $25,000 penalty it paid the Internal Revenue Service last year, the district announced Wednesday. The IRS abated the amount and no further action is necessary by the district, according to a news release. Superintendent Stephen Murley said in August that federal officials had indicated the district had a good chance of being refunded the $25,000 if the mistake was not part of a pattern. The fine came after the district was one day late making a payroll tax payment in spring 2011.
There's your silver lining, Team Bachmann. Beating Jon Huntsman doesn't really count.
