Layoff Watch ’12: H&R’s Post-Tax Season Chopping Block

Three hundred fifty preparers and two hundred locations won't be included in any future tax seasons:

Kansas City-based H&R Block said the company plans to eliminate 350 positions and close about 200 underperforming offices. The announcement was part of a broad strategic realignment that the company announced Wednesday. H&R Block said the plans were designed to make the company more efficient, accountable and better able to generate growth in both clients and revenue. "We believe this realignment is an important next step in becoming a nimbler, more profitable, and more client-centric company," said President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Cobb. Eligible employees throughout the organization will be eligible for a voluntary separation program. If the company doesn't get enough people to leave voluntarily, it said it will eliminate the rest of the 350 positions.
The bright side is that strip malls will look even less desirable than before, so that could bring about some much needed razing.
