For the Judges Scoring at Home, Miss USA Is an Accountant But Not a CPA

As we mentioned this morning, Erin Brady, an accountant from Connecticut, was crowned Miss USA last night.

I wasn't watching the broadcast — Mad Men, duh — but the AP report gave the impression that she informed her bosses on TV that she wouldn't be at work today. Or the day after that, or the day after that.

Moments after she was crowned at the Planet Hollywood hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip Sunday, Connecticut accountant Erin Brady said all she could think about was letting her bosses know she won’t be coming in tomorrow. Or ever again.

Understandable.

The fact that Erin, who looks great in both green and orange, is an accountant has a lot of people excited, but let me just point out two things that will make some of you feel better about yourselves:

1) She does NOT have an accounting degree — Erin majored in finance and minored in criminal justice.

2) She works (worked?) at Prudential — Her professional accounting experience may or may not (we don't know what her duties entailed) go towards qualifing her to be a CPA in Connecticut. That said, she probably still qualifies for the CGMA because that credential requires a pulse and…yeah.

Now, it's entirely possible that sitting for the CPA was never in Ms. Brady's career plans — she does want to get an MBA at some point — however if you get hung up on these sorts of things, you can rest easy knowing that, aside from a few college credits and some practical work experience, she's no closer to being a CPA than Adrienne.

Nevertheless, it's good enough for our Pinterest Accounting Hotties board, which is a true badge of honor.
