Accounting Talent Demanding Everything Shy of the Moon, Your First Born

There's an article over at the Journal of Accountancy on counteroffers that you can read it if you like, but we've covered the topic before and it's a pretty rare situation that you should ever accept one.

HOWEVAH! There is this quote that jumped out:

During the recession, counteroffers were less likely as companies looked to shave employee count. These days, “it’s just a feeding frenzy,” said Bradford Hall, CPA, managing director of Hall & Co. in Irvine, Calif. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen it this bad in 35 years of recruiting. To keep people today, you better give them everything you’ve got and treat them like they’re part of your family. If you don’t, they’re history.”

If I may speak for myself and many, many other people, I'd be "history" after a few days of being treated like family. The nagging questions, the guilt, the constant phone calls, the passive aggressive suggestions about marriage/kids/life direction/bad habits. I'm pretty sure I'd rather an employer treated me as a sworn enemy rather than family.

But seriously, it sounds like you people should get while the getting is good. Considering everything else that's going on in the world right now, we're not likely to see days like this again.

Anyone been embarrassed by an offer lately? Lands, titles, untold riches? Share your experiences.
