Accountant Worked One Day, Allegedly Embezzled $15k

Here's an impressive feat of (alleged) fraud: a woman worked at a company for one day and that was enough for her to embezzle almost $15,000. St. Louis County prosecutors say that Angela Phan stole the money from Triplematic Dispensers from July 1, 2014, and Dec. 6, 2015:

Phan had worked for the company for one day as an accountant, hired off of Craigslist, Maryland Heights Police Officer Shane Monnig said in court papers. The documents do not explain why she worked only one day. The company mailed her a paycheck for that one day of work. The company's account and routing numbers were on the check she received.

The company later noticed several unauthorized transactions had been made on the business checking account. The company's bank said at least one of the transactions was made to an account connected to Phan.

It makes you wonder if Phan learned what she was being paid on her first day. Then by the end of that first day, she decided that stealing from a company searching for accounting help on Craigslist was worth the risk.
